Deli duel instructions

What's in the Box?

Ingredient Cards (66): These are the building blocks of your delicious creations. Some are rare; some are common.

  • 8 each of White bread, Rye Bread and Grain Bread
  • 8 Cheese
  • 7 each of Lettuce and Tomato
  • 6 each of Ham and Chicken
  • 3 each of Mayo and Pickles
  • 1 each of Butter and Sprinkles

Order Cards (22): Each card shows a recipe with 3 ingredients, including at least one type of bread. Once you've collected the required ingredients, you complete the order, and the card becomes a Completed Order, which counts as one point!

  • 21 regular order cards and 1 Fairy Bread order card.

Crook Cards (16): These tricky cards are your way of sabotaging your rivals. You can only play one on your turn, and doing so ends your turn immediately. They cannot be picked up from the discard pile.

  • 5 Wild Cards
  • 4 Swap Ingredients
  • 3 Steal Point
  • 2 Kitchen Mix-up
  • 2 Health Inspector. (We've changed the game to only include 1x Health Inspector, so if you received a Demo Pack at SXSW Sydney set one aside before you play!).

Crook Cards Explained

Wild: Can replace any ingredient in a standard food order. This card must be played with the other two ingredients required for an open order onto the Discard pile. Only one wild card is allowed per order, and they cannot be used to make Fairy Bread.

Steal Ingredient: Play this card onto the Discard pile, and you can demand a single ingredient from another player. They have to give it to you if they have it! If they don't, you get to draw a random card from their hand instead. After you get your card, if you can make an order with your new card, you may place that down as part of your turn. The other player may draw a card from the draw pile to replace the stolen card before you end your turn.

Food Critic: Ouch! This nasty critic lets you steal a completed order from any other player.

Mix-up: Play the card onto the Discard pile, Draw up to 7 cards and then swap your hand with another player of your choice.

Health Inspector: Play the card onto the Discard pile and all other players must discard one of their completed orders and return it to the bottom of the order pile.

The Fairy Bread Combo

If you have the White Bread, Butter, and Sprinkles cards all in your hand, you can place them down during your turn and instantly win the game! No wild cards are allowed in this legendary combination. Remember, if you are missing an ingredient, you can use the Steal Ingredient card to try and obtain it.

Game setup

Prep the Orders: Find the Fairy Bread order card and place it face-up in the middle of the table. Shuffle the remaining 21 order cards. For 2-3 players, display 3 Order cards plus the Fairy Bread order. For 4-6 players, display one order for each person plus the Fairy Bread order. Keep the rest of the order cards face-down in a separate draw pile.

Deal the Cards: Shuffle all Ingredient and Crook cards together. Deal each player 7 cards.

Create Piles: Place the remaining deck face-down to create the main Draw Pile. Flip the top card to start the Discard Pile. If the deck runs out simply shuffle the discard pile to create a new draw pile.

How to Play

Winning the Game: The first player to collect 5 completed orders wins in a 2-3 player game. If you have 4 or more players, the first to 3 completed orders wins. If a player is able to complete the Fairy Bread Combo, then they instantly win the game.

Action Phase: At the start of your turn, you must do one of three things:

1. Complete an Order
If you have the ingredients in your hand for one of the open orders, play the cards from your hand onto the Discard pile. Consider the order that you place them down, as they can be picked up by the next player.

You get to keep the Completed Order card as a point. Your Completed Order card should be set in front of you and visible to all players so they can see how many points you have.

A new Order card is then revealed to replace the one you completed.

Make an order by playing the ingredients listed on an open order.

2. Play a Crook Card: Feeling mischievous? Play a Crook card onto the Discard pile to cause some chaos. See the 'Crook Cards Explained' section for details on how to play these cards.

Crook cards can be used as a turn. Note the Wild card cannot be played by itself

3. Swap: If you choose to Swap as your action phase, pick up two cards from the Draw pile, or one from the Discard and one from the Draw pile. If a Crook card is on top of the Discard pile, you can only Draw from the Draw pile. Discard any two of your cards from your hand onto the Discard pile. If you choose to Discard a Crook card, it will have no power, and it cannot be picked up by another player.

Ending Your Turn: To end your turn, you must replenish your hand back to 7 cards from the Draw pile. If you already have 7 cards in your hand, do not draw any cards.
